St. John Priory. East Orange, NJ
"The apostolate of the Apostolic Sisters of Saint John is fulfilled in communion with the Bishop of the Diocese, a life of evangelization; it involves first of all the witness of a life of adoration, of contemplation and of fraternal charity overflowing into hospitality and spiritual help in all its forms." - Constitutions of the Congregation #6
In response to the late Archbishop John J. Meyers' invitation, we came to the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey in 2007.
We strive to bear witness to the presence of Christ, and bring hope and peace for those in our neighborhood and for everyone we encounter in our apostolic life.
This is the new set of sisters assigned and sent here in this apostolic priory of East Orange.
St. Joseph Parish and School
We have the joy of participating in the Pastoral work of Saint Joseph Parish and of the Archdiocesan School in East Orange. This includes catechesis in the parish and the school, RCIA, youth ministry, visiting the sick and homebound...
Seton hall University
Two of our sisters serve as Campus Ministers at Seton Hall University in cooperation with two Brothers of the Community of St John, as well as with lay missionaries.
HomelEss and Prison Ministry
Here in East Orange, we also bring the Gospel of Joy and Mercy to the homeless women of the area and to prisoners.
Through our various ministries, we have many opportunities to meet other religious and to cooperate extensively with the local clergy.
Following in the footsteps of St John, who had a such a great love and respect for Saint Peter, we are eager to pray for the seminarians and priests of our archdiocese. We welcome anyone to pray with us during our times of common prayer and we carry all the intentions entrusted to us in our apostolates and by those we meet in the neighborhood.
All of us in East Orange are thankful for the beautiful mission the Lord has entrusted to us and for the help and prayers of so many friends and benefactors. May God bless you all!
